“Queen” – My Word for 2025 and What It Means for Us All

Every year, I choose a word. A word to guide me, ground me, and remind me what I need to focus on most in the year ahead.

2023 was Ease—a call to slow down, release the pressure, and move through life with softness.
2024 was Chasing Joy—an invitation to claim lightness, laughter, and pleasure, especially when life felt heavy.

And now, I’ve turned 50.

It feels significant. It is significant. Fifty isn’t just a birthday; it’s a line in the sand. A transition. A moment where you stop and think, How do I want to BE in this next chapter of my life?

How do I want to show up as a woman, a partner, a mother, and as the founder of All About Her—a space that supports women through the menopausal years and calls in the health professionals who are just as passionate about this work as I am?

So, as I do every year, I asked myself:

What’s my word for the year?

And then I let it go. I’ve learned that if I stop pushing, the answer will find me. A few weeks later, there it was.

Queen.

Yes, Queen.

What Does Queen-Hood Mean?

Now, before you picture me in a crown waving regally at the masses, let me explain. Queen isn’t about castles or tiaras. It’s about embodying the qualities I need—and so many of us need—at this stage of life.

For me, Queen-Hood captures the grounded, powerful energy I want to bring into my second chapter. It’s about showing up fully, without shrinking, without apology. It’s about wisdom, boundaries, joy, and unapologetic self-worth.

Here’s what the word Queen means to me:

👑 Self-Assurance—A Queen knows her worth. She doesn’t need external validation because she’s built a rock-solid trust in herself.

👑 Boundaried and Unapologetic—She says no without guilt. She protects her energy fiercely because she understands how precious it is.

👑 Joy and Pleasure—A Queen reclaims joy—not as a luxury, but as fuel. She makes space for laughter, for lightness, for things that make her come alive.

👑 Wisdom and Clarity—Through life’s challenges, she’s earned her wisdom. She trusts her intuition, her choices, and her path.

👑 Sovereignty—She is the ruler of her own life. She stops twisting herself into shapes that don’t fit and reclaims her power to decide what’s right for her.

👑 Authenticity—She shows up as her whole self—messy, imperfect, glorious—because she has nothing to prove anymore.

Why Queen-Hood Matters in Midlife

Midlife isn’t the end of our story—it’s a transition into the next, most powerful chapter. But let’s be real: this phase often feels like a storm. Perimenopause shakes us up physically, emotionally, and mentally. We feel scattered, stretched thin, and sometimes like we don’t even know who we are anymore.

But what if all of that is by design?

What if midlife—and perimenopause in particular—is meant to disrupt us? To strip away the layers we’ve been carrying for decades:

  • The people-pleasing.
  • The over-functioning.
  • The putting ourselves last.

All of this shaking and stripping back isn’t to break us—it’s to reveal us.

It’s as though life is saying, “Who are you now? Who do you want to be? What parts of your life need to go so you can rise as the woman you were always meant to be?”

This is where Queen-Hood comes in.

Because a Queen doesn’t shrink in the face of disruption. She meets it with curiosity, courage, and a sense of sovereignty.

She uses this midlife shake-up to realign her life with what matters most. She snips away the dead wood—roles, habits, relationships, expectations—and makes space for joy, meaning, and peace.

Funny How Life Works, Isn’t It?

Since the word “Queen” landed for me, I’ve had multiple people—without knowing my word—call me Queen. It’s as if the universe is nudging me, saying, Yep, you’re on the right path.

And here’s what I want to say to you:

Queen-Hood is for you, too.

You don’t need to embody every quality of a Queen right now. Maybe it’s the boundaries that resonate with you. Maybe it’s the joy, the wisdom, or the sovereignty.

But whatever it is, midlife is your invitation to step into your own Queen-Hood.

To rise. To reclaim your voice. To live unapologetically as the powerful, wise woman you are becoming.
